Bob Craft sent us copies of two yearbooks that document basic training at Fort Ord. Click the covers and enjoy the trip through time!
Basic Training Yearbook: March - May 1954
Basic Training Yearbook: February - April 1966
"Since it has been 44 years since I was at Ft Ord, my memories of the fort are very fuzzy. I do remember how cold it was in February. Because of the meningitis scare, we had to sleep with all the barrack windows open. I was in the old wooden barracks but I do not remember which ones they were." -Bob Craft

I was in D-2-3 from April-Dec 1970 as a cadre. Anyone have a yearbook from those three cycles they could spare? Would really appreciate it.

Al Cagle,
I was a trainee in 2nd platoon during the June/August cycle in 1970. I don't know if you recall or were even aware of the fact the nearly the entire company consisted of 300 New Mexico boys. Remember the barracks only had five platoon bays? 6th platoon was quartered at the wooden barracks down the road and had to get up earlier than the rest of the company so as to meet up with us for morning formation.
Perhaps some day I will find my long lost yearbook in which case I'd be happy to digitize and share it with everyone. In the meantime I'll keep searching ebay for a copy.

Trying to find dad's yearbook from H-1-1 Jan-March? 1966. Thanks. Lawrence K. Hubbell was his name. Even if someone has it in digital copy to look at would be great.

I was in C-1-3. Inducted March 4, 1970. Arrived Fort Ord and spent a few days in the old WWII barracks getting our kit and spent one bad day on KP. Every other window had to stay open because of Meningitis. Remember the Magggot Tags. I had to take some specialized tests for 3 days after training. After one of the tests I snuck over to the PX and bought a transistor radio. The PX was off limits. The lady who sold it to me turned out to be my platoon sergeants wife. He let it pass with a wink. We were also sent to watch a race at the Laguna Seca track and were given 2 tickets that we could exchange for beer. It bit us in the ass because we had to double time it back to the barracks and the sand just sucked at your boots.
